new members for Manchester

We've been plotting and planning ways to open our doors to more people for quite some time now and Manchester Craft Mafia is delighted to announce that are finally ready for new members so if you're in our corner of the world and want to join in let us know - full details here

If you're not in our corner of the world but fancy a little piece of crafting action anyway, we are working with our neighbours the Manchester Craft & Design Centre to help them create their Garden Party. We need your bunting so get cutting, stitching, knitting, crocheting and other 'ings' now. All contributions very happily received. Here's what to do.

Design our next ad!!

Hi Mafia Members!!
We're having a contest to design our next ad appearing in NEET magazine. The winner will have their names posted on the ad and you'll be blogged about. It's a great way to get your design skills out in front of people and drum up more business.

Here are the details:

Size: 350w x 454h, 72 dpi

Send it in by March 15 to mafia@craftmafia.com.

I will then post the ads for voting and the winning ad will be used. Be sure and ad your name somewhere on the ad so you receive credit for your design.

Please tell all of your members about this awesome opportunity to get some ad design experience! And remember this opportunity is open to Craft Mafia members only.

Stitch Applications are DUE TODAY - Still taking tote bags and sponsors!

Stitch Applications are due TODAY!

“The town’s most interesting night of fashion-Stitch, a runway show that’s as much about the community as it is about the clothes” – NYLON Magazine.

So if you have been debating whether of not to come to Austin, TX and show your clothing line on the runway or sell you handmade goodies in the craft bazaar on Nov 10th, debate no longer. Stitch must have your application in today as we are choosing the designers and vendors on Thursday. Click here to apply to Stitch as a fashion designer, click here to apply for a craft bazaar booth, click here to apply for both. We can't wait to see your fantabulous handmade goodies!

We are also still interested in swapping sponsorship packages for tote bags. If you want your tote bags in the hands of 500 Austinites email Jennifer at info@naughtysecretaryclub.com We ask that the bags be large enough to hold magazines and that you can donate at least 10. Tote bags must be received by October 1st.

Want to sponsor Stitch? Join companies like Simplicity, Etsy, Duncan, Sublime Stitching, Sakura, Baby Lock and more by supporting Austin’s largest independent fashion show and craft bazaar. We have packages for as low as $100! Email Jennifer at info@naughtysecretaryclub.com if you are interested.

We’ll see you at Stitch Nov 10th at the Austin Convention Center (note the new bigger location!).

Xo,
Stitch

Uncommon Thread Wearable Art Show

This is something pretty cool that someone in nearby Baton Rouge contacted the New Orleans Craft Mafia about:

There's a call for artists out for the Uncommon Thread Wearable Art Show, which will attempt to merge fashion design and visual art. Put together by the people at Culturecandy.org and the Baton Rouge Gallery, this juried competetion will be judged Suzanne Perron, who has previously worked for Vera Wang. Artists will be judged on craftsmanship, innovative design, dramatic detail and use of alternative materials.

Artists from all over the country are encouraged to submit proposals. Entry forms and more info can be found at their website. The deadline for entries is September 17. Accepted entries will be presented in a staged dance performance, and there will also be a musical collaboration, combining a local DJ with a string quartet.

Pretty awesome, huh? I hope some Craft Mafia folks submit entries. Maybe if I can find the time I'll come up with something myself.
